Tip - Great Smelling Laundry
For today’s tip I am going to share my secret to the best smelling laundry! Seriously, I have had people comment on how my clothes smell for years and it has NOTHING to do with Gain detergent (sorry Gain lovers, but it is much too overwhelming for me - if I can tell what laundry detergent you use while standing behind you in line… it is way too powerful! It shouldn’t override your shampoo scent and perfume. I did buy it once - never again.) If Gain tickles your fancy that’s great, but if you want to walk on the wild side with me read on…
I am a huge fan of the basics, but put these working together and you’ve got the best smelling combo for show stopping clothing. Here’s the list: Ultra Tide, Ultra Downey, Javex Bleach (only on whites and towels - it gets that gross mildewy smell out of your washcloths every time), and Bounce Outdoor Fresh Scent Dryer Sheets. Using this combo together will make your clothes clean, and smell wonderfully fresh! You will seriously love it.
Tomorrow’s tip will be on stain removers. Happy washing!

Hilarious- we have almost the exact same list of supplies- Tide, Downy,Javex- but I’m anti dryer sheets. As the daughter of a dry cleaner I’ve seen too many problems with the deposits from them on items. But I am with you on the scent of things- I hate, loathe detest !!! the sweet sickly smell of so many of the laundry products out now - way too heavy and overpowering.
You heard the joke the single guy tells about how you can tell a married guy from a single guy at a (ahem) social gathering? He explains that women are like wolves- they mark their territory- The married guy smells like fabric softener. lol.

Catherine - That joke was hilarious! We are definitely on the same page with the laundry smells - too much = YUCK!
Jackie - I do use both! Some might think it is overkill, but I find it works well for the water hardness in my area. I use about half the Downey than they recommend and if I don’t use the dryer sheets as well, I get to deal with clothes that are crunchy and static-y. No thanks!

Your clothes do smell really good Maja. Thanks for the info. I would have never used Downy and Bounce.

For a bit I had tide with a touch of downy and I used the reg. downy for my whites because my husband freaks out if it’s undies are staticy and won’t wear them. It worked really well. I prefer not to use fabric softener sheets. I hate touching them! lol. My favourite (Canadian) detergent is Sunlight but there is no such thing in Denver! Right now we have fabric softener sheets from a friend (I can only have so many downy balls!) and I detest using them (they smell fruity/flowery - target brand ugh). I keep telling myself to give ‘em up and toss ‘em but it feels so wasteful and as the wife of a student I’m doing a pitiful best at being frugal! Maybe I will let them bit the dust.
