Get Gorgeous - Your home will thank you

Get Ready for the DayToday’s tip is all about efficiency. The best way to ensure a productive day is to get up early, shower and do your hair and make up!  It may sound a little backward to do this before you clean, but unless you are sweeping out the garage, it is important to do this first.

I used to be an “au naturel” kind of girl, but when I didn’t put the effort into myself, it was far too easy to slack in other areas. When you do this first, it gives you pep in your step, a feeling of confidence, knowing that you look your best and are putting THAT foot forward.  This podcast and website are all about being able to be your best, in all areas of your life, and this is a great way to begin.  Show your family, colleagues, strangers at the supermarket that you care about your most important asset - YOU!  Believe me, as you do this first, you will be a lot more inclined to organize your shoes, have a tidy home, wipe out your bathroom sink… it just makes you want to try harder.  If it means waking up a half hour before the kids so you can get it in, you will be grateful you did for the rest of the day.  Instead of figuring out what fires to put out, you will be thinking how smoothly your day is going. Now isn’t that a good way to start your day?!

Good way to start the day indeed. It’s something I struggle with but I’ve found a quick way to do my hair that I really like. All it involves is mousse and a blow dryer and then a little hair spray. Takes about 5 minutes! Woo hoo! Thanks for the tip Maja.

Your husband and your home will thank you!

It is also a great feeling to feel entirely pulled together when someone comes to the door or if you have to run out unexpectedly- there’s no mad rush, you are all set!

I’m sure you didn’t mean to suggest that one doesn’t care about one’s appearance if they go “au naturel,” but that’s exactly what you said. Perhaps this could be better phrased if you established what precisely is at issue here: doing what it takes to make you feel like you’re showing your true self to the world. (Which sometimes means forgetting what society says and sometimes means whole-heartedly embracing it. The key is choice.)

    Hi Chelsea,
I think that Maja meant doing whatever you do to make yourself feel great on the outside. Whether that’s makeup or not, just doing your routine, getting dressed and starting out your day “ready” to go. :)

Chelsea - I am so glad you made that comment. You are so right - really what I meant is that you do whatever it is that makes you feel your best. It is so true that you don’t have to wear make up to show that you care about yourself, but the point was that if you FEEL like it helps you, then do it. If it doesn’t, than all the power to you! Sometimes when people don’t care about the way they look it makes it hard to care about the way their house looks. They often go hand in hand and that was where the point was aiming. If you are lucky enough to have the confidence to feel your best without make up, then rock on! It is all about how you feel.
