Find - Deceptively Delicious
After giving this weeks find some thought, I decided on the PERFECT thing to review. It is a cookbook I just bought and know that it is going to be one of those cookbooks… one that will become a favourite and likely the only one I will use for the next 10 years! It is called “Deceptively Delicious” by Jessica Seinfeld and is about putting fruits and veggies secretly in your family meals using tried and tested kid-proof favourites (think mac and cheese meets cauliflower puree). This finally makes a healthy mealtime something to look forward to instead of dread (the latter is where I am at - if my kids even see green they push their plate away). The book is so fun to look at with the heavy retro feel (did anyone else read Barbie the Babysitter?) and the layout is great. It makes reading a cookbook actually fun!!
The Foreword was written by a couple of doctors who really get you to feel the importance of good nutrition for your children. The intro was written by Jessica and outlined the problems she has had getting her kids to eat well. It hit so close to home, I could have sworn that she was talking about my three! She goes on to describe her solutions; great, easy recipes with secrety goodness hidden in every meal, all with the guidance of a nutritional expert. It is now virtuous to be deceptive!! But where she really had me was the heading entitled “The Program”! Sigh. Jessica, you are a woman after my own heart! The pictures made my mouth water and just about all the recipes take less than 30 from start to mouthwatering finish. I can’t wait to start pureeing and deceiving my little gremlins! Not only that, I am thrilled that I will begin to use the food in the crisper (my husband lovingly refers to it as “the rotter”). No more wasted money and my children will be getting their daily requirements. Now those two things are enough to make ANY mom sleep well at night! I will report back next week and let you know how it went!

Okay! This is the most fabulous find EVER! I have ZERO children but I do have ONE anti-veggie husband. I always joke that I have to hide the veggies within, however a lot of times that’s the case. I totally NEED this book and it’s only $15 on Amazon! I am also digging the retro feel. This is going on my Christmas list for sure. One last thing, Chocolate Cake with beets and Brownies with Carrot and Spinach?? Let me know how this works out for you Maja. The suspense is killing me!

I am excited to try this book. I am with Katie, it is going on my Christmas list. I love that a meal only takes 30 minutes, that is awesome!

okay, i’ll confess that I’m secretly scared about how these recipes are going to taste, but I am so enchanted by the book cover I can’t resist entering- who wouldn’t want THAT little cutie-pie peekin’ out ‘atcha from your cookbook shelf?

I have this book, and everything I’ve made so far as been DELICIOUS!! It just enhances your food so much, it’s really yummy and easy to do. Once you puree your first few veggies you’ll be hooked.

Got It , Love it. My kids like the Oatmeal w/out peanut butter. I don’t hide the fact that I’m putting purees in their food I just tell them its a part of the recipe.
